Boiling up from the fragrant depths of the internet, a challenger appears – Yonkoma is a 4 panel comic strip arranged vertically, a format popular in countries where people read top to bottom instead of left to right.
Yonkoma (or 4koma) is the Japanese name for the vertical 4 panel comic strip format you see here. In Asian language countries, the format is used in comic books, newspapers, and magazines – just as the 4 panel horizontal format is used in the left-to right reading West. The traditional Yonkoma follows a story structure known as Kishotenketsu:
Ki:Introduction (Setting the scene)
Sho: Development (What Happens)
Ten: Twist (Surprise! The climax of the story.)
Ketsu: Conclusion (The reaction to or result of the twist panel)

Manga fans are responsible for bringing Yonkoma style comics to the internet. Scanning, translating and sharing comics back and forth online, the deceptively simple approach and web-ready linearity have been inspirational to web-based comic artists, and spawned further vertical image macros, such as the two panel “I loled”.
The transition from manga to Internet meme hit the big time when a handful of photos showing the rapper Xzibit became the feature of a recurring Yomkoma in 4chan and other forums — which put the 4 panel comic format on the map.

Hello there! Great website, I really enjoyed it! Might I suggest that in the vote page you should put the thumbs up/thumbs down voter thing at the bottom of each entry. That way people can read the comic, and vote at the bottom rather than having to scroll back to the top to vote.
