I’m an expert on the theory behind experiences such as this, and in fact, inconsistencies are the main reason, jokes, movies, stories, etc fall flat and lose their special something (usually believability). So yes, a typo can very much ruin the thing, if it is in put in the mouth of someone who is supposed to be the more right one.
