It’s the candyman from the original charlie and the chocolate factory. Kids with diabetes have to control their sugar intake because their blood sugar is too high.

My dad is diabetic, and yes indeed you can eat candy. Still, the kind of sugar binge that many kids engage in on halloween (and in a candy shop) would still be off limits right?

Ah, it was made in good fun, there’s no purposeful ill will toward individuals with diabetes…hell, my grandma has diabetes. I made the comic because I was watching Willy Wonka the other day and every time the whole “Candy Man” scene comes up, I always wonder why Charlie didn’t just GO INTO THE SHOP to get free candy thrown at him, like the other kids…he just stands at the window, looking in pathetically. I laugh every time I see this, so I came up with an explanation.
People forgot that we come to this site looking for laughs, not to defend a condition/disease/cause/world peace. IT’S A JOKE PEOPLE!

technically, diabetics have no issues with consuming large amounts of sugar. they can always uptitrate their insulin dose to reduce their blood sugar levels.

I think the joke is funny (in a “reality sucks” kind of way), but it was poorly executed and a little confusing. Cut to scenes inside the chocolate factory, with the edible candy flowers and river of chocolate… THEN have Charley say the punchline.

Nope. Dat was my first reaction, too. Took me a few minutes to understand that the joke wasn’t about the strange way he was holding that little girl…. *shudder* and instead about diabetes. Not exactly connected, eh?

You can still eat candy with Juvenile (type I) diabetes. Not really that funny.
But you can get sick if you don’t take your insulin so eating candy typically translates into an injection of insulin.

OH MY GOD. I hate this. I’m a Type 1 Diabetic and ALL.THE.TIME. people are telling me I can’t have sugar. Dude,yes we can. Yay insulin! Bad comix.
