Hey, began in Japan as a simple cartoon, becomes a world gaming phenomenon! Yes, I’d say that would be cultural.
Lots of folks these days listen to Lady Gaga, sure doesn’t make her cultural though. Just because many people enjoy a trend or a game doesn’t mean it is cultural or in any way educational.

Actually, in a wierd sort of way, it does qualify as culture. Culture doesn’t have to be stuffy art museums or austere national landmarks, it can be any common thing that a group of geographically or otherwise related people lay claim to. I’d say a generation growing up on video gaming and the like CERTAINLY qualifies as part of America’s culture.
Culture isn’t always drab and educational. When I tell people I study popular culture in the US and Japan, they think I’m doing something boring, when really I’m just using a smart- assed term to say I like cartoons, video games, manga and anime.

Actually, an even better joke than this is that, despite all the environmental damage they cause, millions of people are still purchasing gas guzzling SUV’s and oversized pickup trucks, therefore justifying the need for all this excessive and risky deep water drilling….

Why we have to do this drilling is because the stupid environmentalists won’t allow enough land drilling. If they’d just shut up and learn to compromise there wouldn’t be a need for it.
Though it would still be drilled as China often slant-drills into oil supplies – they’re far enough out to be in international waters, but they tap reserves under places considered to be American.
Anyway, since this is an obviously photoshop it doesn’t bug me. But I don’t find it funny just because – it’s not that good. The Pokemon take offs just aren’t all that.
