Just wondering how many viewers have no idea where this old Burgess Meredith clip comes from. Sadness.

    • moebunny says:

Probably about the same number as those who have no idea who Burgess Meredith is. ;)

    • DRoseDARs says:

Judging by the 198 v 393 votes against this one, I’d say far too many. My dad wasn’t born yet, my mom was just a toddler when that episode aired, and I was conceived around the time Reagan became the Republican nominee for the presidency, and even I recognize it. Kids these days… suck. :(

      • Dr. Rabbit says:

I’m 14, and I found this hilarious. I agree that many kids don’t appreciate things made 3 years earlier than the current time. I’m just glad that I’m one of the few who recognize a good Twilight Zone when I see one.

        • BonJovi821 says:

Omg, I’m 14 too and I laughed at this too! I saw it because my teacher last year showed it to us. I liked that episode. It’s a shame this has more downvotes than upvotes.

      • Hvsl says:

652 vs 954 right now. Yeah, awesome that at least 3/5 of the internets don’t get this. . Also, good for you Dr. Rabbit. Culture wins for you.

    • ReX13 says:

Agree. Obviously, thumbs down are from those who don’t recognize good funny.

    • ElemWiz says:

One of the saddest TZ’s ever.

    • Lei says:

This is my favorite episode. TZ Solidarity.

    • Anonymous Moose says:

This was a sad episode. Really.

Come to think of it, I can’t name a Twilight Zone episode that had a happy ending.

    • Spastastic says:

This episode makes me teary every time…

And the voting makes me sad as well. What the hell, people?

      • Zoreta says:

Ditto on the teary-eyedness. Come on, I’m still in High School and I recognize this picture. What a sad world, that so many people don’t know the ‘lolwut’ and -tear- that is the Twilight Zone.

    • Alexandre says:

Come on! The Twilight Zone! This episode was epic! ^_^

  2. Theserenity says:

Poor dude :( look at his face in the last one…

  3. Sinidrax says:

I guess people here aren’t cultured enough to recognize a classic Twilight Zone episode. Kudos

  4. Justin says:

    IT’S NOT FAIR!!

  5. Again says:

    Funny!

  6. Isn’t this from that Twilight Zone epipode “Enough Time at Last?“?

  7. Twilight Zone says:

This is a scene from twilight zone when the world ends and the man is left alone with all the books he wants to read and then he breaks his glasses.
    Yeah, Epic fail…

  8. Dude says:

    It’s not fair, it’s not fair…

  9. aefven@gmail.com says:

I banish you from this place. Be unfunny somewhere else.

  10. Orion Fury says:

Silly Twilight Zone, trying to be a Comix.

  11. Nabead says:

Clever use of that last shot.

  12. Toby says:

I like the Twilight Zone reference, but it was done very poorly. Thumbs down.

  13. chaneke says:

how could that be unfunny??!!! that’s funny dude!!

  14. bman94 says:

It could have been worded better.

  15. Eto3 says:

    LMAO!
    Well done!

  16. Jakeo16 says:

Most people who thumbs downed this probably have never seen this episode of the Twilight Zone…sad…

  17. Webfreedom says:

Cmon guys! 2:1 dislikes? I thought it was pretty funny… From Twilght zone in case you didn’t know.

  18. hedgehog says:

classic but arcane. too cerebral for the locals.

  19. Drippy says:

    Young’uns won’t understand the refrence. It’s a shame.

  20. Jess says:

He should just read the books behind him… that shot kind of killed the funny for me. Or maybe I’m just pro-real-books.

    • DRoseDARs says:

Since you’re not one of us broken hipsters, look at the first frame. Now look at the last. Now back to the first. He’s not on a horse. His coke-bottle glasses broke. He’s blind as a bat and couldn’t read those books, even though he really REALLY wants to.

    • Khalexus says:

The books behind him is the POINT of the joke. /Captain Obvious.

    • jamisings says:

      Ahem -
Burgess plays a man who loves to read in this episode, but no one gives him time to read. Especially not his shrew of a wife who hates his love of reading.
He ends up in a bank vault when a nuke goes off and everyone is killed except him. When he comes out he realizes he now has all the time in the world to read.
However, after organizing all the books he plans on reading over the years, he trips and breaks his glasses – without which, he’s as blind as a bat – so he can’t read. He finally has enough time to read – but now he can’t see the books at all.
      It’s not fair.

  21. Vince says:

And there, in a nutshell, is why a Kindle will never pollute my home with its Satanic stench.

    • Neko says:

Because it might touch off an atomic war and wipe out all life but you on the planet before causing you to break your glasses?

  22. Charlie says:

I really love how dudes are getting off in the comment section talking about how they’re so special for getting this pretty well-known pop culture reference.

    Feel proud, do ya? lulz.

    • te says:

we’re saying that because no one my age even knows what the Twilight Zone is, we’re proud of knowing an influential TV show that others have forgotten.

  23. Raptor007 says:

The number of thumbs-down make me sad.

If you don’t get it, the full Twilight Zone episode is on YouTube in 3 parts:

Or there’s a 2-minute summary version that gives you the basics:

  24. anon says:

STFU we know where the reference is from but it’s still not funny! the joke is exhausted

  25. Theda says:

Ah, this episode makes me cry.

Lynn Venable and Rod Serling are brilliant.

    Skruluce, not so much.

  26. Gumped says:

I think people got the twilight zone reference… but.. ya know, he can just plug the damn thing in.

    • Hvsl says:

except that if i remember correctly, he’s alone because it’s kind of the end of the world. . . which usually means no power. . .

      • Neko says:

No, power is just magickally around. If everyone died, the world would keep on working like it does. Toilets would work, microwavable food would continue to appear in the freezer, and all the gas pumps would work forever for free!

        (Kids today are stupid.)

  27. Modern Family! says:

Harumph! this would be more funny…if Modern Family didn’t make that joke already

  28. Switcher says:

The classic “Twilight Zone” is (was) certainly one of the best things aired on TV about humankind and imagination.
    With Dr Who…
    … and some other things.
    And the “Muppet Show”…

  29. #2773912 says:

1959! I wish I was alive then so I could enjoy the genius of Rod Serling, instead, I get stuck with this “internet” business. I’d swap any day…

if I was 17 in 1959.. that would put me around the time of the doors in my 20′s! No downside.

  30. tomtwelve says:

holy crap… i actually GET this joke! and i’m only 14! i guess it’s a good thing we watched those twilight zone episodes in eighth grade. though i can’t quite remember why we watched those.

  31. Miranda says:

    I LOVE that episode! <3

  32. j.c. says:

LOOL the thing stitched on the left side of whatever that is looks like a stickman jerking off XD

  33. ruperticus says:

    This is depressing 8[
    I remember that episode.

  34. Greg says:

I have always found that episode depressing.
But, I thought this use of it was funny!

  35. ObamaBinLaden says:

Omfg, I watched that twilight episode in school. XD

  36. Dirkowow says:
