No, I’m pretty sure that was done to emphasize the joke aspect of the comix. If it were spelled correctly then it wouldn’t be as funny, because people might not get it. This way it’s more clear; the joke is in the pronunciation and NOT in the spelling. Besides this isn’t English class… lighten up people. Jimmy, where the heck do you get that idea? It doesn’t defeat the purpose it just makes it more clear to the reader.
